The eye is made up of three coats which enclose the Optical clear aqueous Humour, a transparent biconvex lens and vitreous body.
Opening of the eye is not just the result of passive relaxation of orbicularis muscle but also is the effect of the contraction of the levator palpebrae superiors muscle of the uper lid.
Six muscles outside the eye govern it's movements. These are four rectus muscles - the inferior, medial, lateral and superior rectus and the superior and inferior oblique muscles.
The eye can be considered as a living optical device.
